The objectives of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Jharkhand are aligned with its mandate as the State's premier institution for tribal research, policy support, knowledge management, and cultural preservation. The Institute seeks to promote inclusive and sustainable development of Scheduled Tribes and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) through the following objectives:

1. Promote Evidence-Based Policy Research

To undertake multidisciplinary research, benchmark surveys, impact evaluations, and policy studies that generate reliable evidence for informed planning, policy formulation, and implementation of tribal development programmes.

2. Preserve and Promote Tribal Languages and Literature

To document, preserve, standardize, and promote the rich linguistic diversity of Jharkhand by developing primers, grammars, dictionaries, literature, translations, and digital language resources, while supporting Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE).

3. Conserve Tribal Cultural Heritage

To identify, document, preserve, and disseminate the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of tribal communities, including oral traditions, folklore, performing arts, traditional crafts, indigenous festivals, customary practices, and traditional knowledge systems.

4. Document Indigenous Knowledge Systems

To systematically document, validate, and promote indigenous knowledge relating to agriculture, forestry, biodiversity, traditional medicine, natural resource management, governance, livelihoods, and ecological conservation.

5. Strengthen Capacity Building

To enhance the capacities of government officials, educators, researchers, community institutions, tribal youth, and civil society organizations through training programmes, workshops, fellowships, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

6. Support Tribal Education

To promote quality education among tribal communities by developing culturally relevant educational resources, supporting multilingual education, conducting educational research, and strengthening teacher capacity for inclusive learning.

7. Facilitate Knowledge Dissemination

To publish and disseminate research findings, policy briefs, journals, books, reports, documentaries, and digital content that contribute to public awareness, academic scholarship, and evidence-based decision-making.

8. Promote Technology and Digital Innovation

To leverage digital technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital archives for research, language preservation, governance support, and improved access to tribal knowledge resources.

9. Support Sustainable Tribal Livelihoods

To undertake research on tribal livelihoods, entrepreneurship, value chains, natural resource management, climate resilience, and skill development, thereby contributing to sustainable economic empowerment.

10. Strengthen Institutional Collaboration

To foster partnerships with universities, research institutions, government departments, national and international organizations, and tribal communities for collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and innovation.

11. Promote Inclusive Development of PVTGs

To conduct focused research and provide policy recommendations for the socio-economic development, educational advancement, healthcare, livelihood enhancement, and cultural preservation of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

12. Serve as the State's Knowledge Repository on Tribal Affairs

To establish and maintain comprehensive repositories of tribal data, publications, archives, audio-visual documentation, and digital resources, serving as the authoritative knowledge hub on the tribes of Jharkhand.

13. Provide Technical and Policy Support to Government

To assist the Government of Jharkhand and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs through evidence-based recommendations, policy advisory services, monitoring and evaluation, and technical expertise for tribal welfare and development programmes.

14. Foster Community Participation and Inclusive Governance

To encourage active participation of tribal communities in research, documentation, programme design, and knowledge creation, ensuring that development initiatives are culturally appropriate, community-driven, and sustainable.
